Shake Flashlight privacy policy
Shake Flashlight turns your phone's flashlight on and off with a shake, a button or a home screen widget, and also offers SOS, strobe and a full-screen light. This policy explains what the app does with information. The short version: it doesn't collect, send or share any.
Information the app collects
None. The app has no account, no sign-up, no advertising, no in-app purchases, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party tracking code. It doesn't have the Internet permission, so it can't send anything from the device.
Sensors
- Motion sensor (accelerometer). Read only while shake is turned on, to recognise a deliberate shake. Readings are processed on the device as they arrive and are never saved or sent anywhere.
- Proximity sensor. Read once after a shake is detected, to ignore shakes while the phone is covered, for example in a pocket.
- Call state. The app checks whether the phone's audio is in call mode, only to ignore shakes during a call. It doesn't use the phone permission and can't see who you call or any call details.
The app doesn't use the camera. Android controls the flashlight separately, so no camera permission is requested and no images are ever captured.
Permissions and when they're used
- Notifications (Android 13 and later). Used only to show the ongoing "Shake is ready" notification that Android requires for shake to work while the app is closed. Shake still works with the app open if you decline.
- Foreground service (special use). Lets shake keep listening, visibly, while the app is closed. You can turn it off from the app or from the notification.
- Start at boot (
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED). Turns shake back on after the phone restarts, if you had it on. - Vibration. A short buzz confirms each shake.
- Keep awake (
WAKE_LOCK). Held for about a second while checking a shake. On phones whose motion sensor can't work in sleep, an optional setting that is off by default keeps listening with the screen off; the app warns that this uses more battery.
Information stored by the app
The app keeps its settings in its own private storage on your phone: whether shake is on, shake sensitivity, whether the light turns on when the app opens, whether to keep listening with the screen off, the automatic turn-off time, flashlight brightness, and whether it has already shown the strobe warning and asked for notification permission. None of this identifies you, and the developer never receives it. Android's device backup may include these settings, under your Google account's backup settings. They are removed when the app is uninstalled or its data is cleared.
Audience
The app is intended for a general adult audience. It contains no advertising, purchases, chat or social features, and it collects no information from anyone, whatever their age.
Links
The app doesn't go online. This page is linked from the app's Google Play listing.
Sharing
The developer doesn't share data with anyone, because the app doesn't collect any.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Any future version that changed what the app collects would say so here before release.
